History
Something from the history of the Mountain Rescue Service House
The story of the Mountain Rescue House began to be written in 1975, when members of the mountain rescue service started building it in their free time. Construction lasted for 10 years and the building served them for many years as a place where they met during their shifts, organized courses, and spent time together. Later, the cottage was also operated as an accommodation facility. After 35 years, it needed a complete reconstruction, which we started in April 2020, and in August 2021 we opened the cottage to the public. The cottage offers year-round accommodation, restaurant services, and a bar for all nature lovers. In the summer season, there is also a campsite near the cottage.
About the location
Tále is a significant tourist and recreational resort located on the southern side of the Low Tatras, in the Bystrej Valley, through which the Bystrianka stream flows. Due to its location, it is a popular destination during the winter season, especially for its proximity to several ski resorts. The closest one is Ski Tále, followed by Mýto pod Ďumbierom (6km) and the popular Jasná Chopok South (8 km), which is connected to the north and offers more than 50 km of ski slopes of varying difficulty. In Tále and the surrounding area, you will also find many cross-country skiing trails in winter. In summer, the most popular tourist destinations are the highest peak of the Low Tatras, Ďumbier, Chata gen. M.R. Štefánik and Chopok, which is also accessible by cable car. Tále is also a great destination for cycling and golf enthusiasts. Worth mentioning is a visit to the Cave of Dead Bats or the more accessible Bystrianska Cave. Relaxation and refreshment can be found at the natural summer swimming pool right in Tále.
Winter activities
In winter, all skiing and snowboarding lovers come here, as there are up to three significant ski resorts near the cottage: Ski Tále - 1 km Mýto pod Ďumbierom - 6 km Jasná Chopok South - 8 km In addition, there are cross-country skiing trails in Tále and Pohanské. In case of good conditions, it is possible to do ski mountaineering on the ridge of the Low Tatras or winter hiking to Chatu gen. M.R. Štefánik, or the year-round accessible Ďumbier.
Summer activities
The Horehronie region offers plenty of tourist destinations not only for demanding tourists, but also trips for families with children and those who prefer to explore the world from the saddle of a bicycle.
Ďumbier and Cottage Gen. M.R. Štefánika
The most popular and year-round accessible route to Ďumbier leads from the parking lot at Chata Trangoška along the green trail past the Cave of Dead Bats to Chata Gen. M.R. Štefánik, which offers refreshments. From there, continue on the red trail to Krúpovo saddle and to Ďumbier, which offers beautiful views. The total time in summer is around 5:30 h and hiking is suitable for less experienced hikers and older children. More experienced hikers can continue to Chopok and descend again at Trangoška.
Chopok
You can get to Chopok via the yellow trail from Trangoška through Srdiečko and Kosodrevina or simply by cable car. In the case of the first option, allow 6 hours for the whole circuit. From Chopok, you can also continue along the ridge to the west towards Dereše or to the east towards Ďumbier.
Bystrianska Cave
You can admire the karst formations in the Bystrianska Cave from June to October. The accessible circuit is 580 meters long and the tour takes 45 minutes. Access to the cave is from the parking lot in the village of Bystrá.
Cave of the Dead Bats
You will experience a real adventure with real cavers just in this cave, located in the Ďumbier high mountain karst. The cave is accessible from the Trangošky cottage via the green trail. It offers a circuit suitable for families with older children, as well as circuits that require experience in mountain terrain and climbing. It is necessary to book a tour in advance by phone.
Educational trail Tále
Just a few meters from the cottage there is an educational interactive trail suitable for families with children. It is about 1km long and in a playful way you will learn something new about plants, animals and elements of the forest. Download the "Forest World" app from Google Play or the App Store to your phone and catch all the voices of the forest. Head left from the cottage and after about 200m you will reach the first educational board.
Viewing tower Horné Lazy
The lookout tower in Horné Lazy is the second highest lookout tower in Slovakia. After climbing 192 steps, you will reach a height of 39.6 meters, where you will be enchanted by beautiful panoramic views of the Low Tatras from Kráľova hoľa to Banská Bystrica, the royal city of Brezno, the Horehronie valley, and the Veporské mountains. Visitors can reach the lookout tower from the Banisko area after a 4-kilometer walk in approximately 60 minutes. An educational interactive trail leads to the lookout tower, where tourists can find interesting information about the nature of the area, as well as wooden sculptures of animals living in the forests of Horné Lazy.
Gray Bear Golf
Within walking distance, you will also find the Gray Bear golf course with beautiful natural scenery, which covers an area of approximately 60 hectares.
Tarzan's Valley
In the treetops awaits fun for both children and adults. The area consists of 23 obstacles at a height of 5 to 7 meters above ground. Experienced instructors will train you and provide you with the necessary equipment.
Natural swimming pool Tále
If you desire passive relaxation, just a few meters from the cottage you will find the natural swimming pool Tále. In the evening hours, we recommend visiting this place and enjoying the sunset.
Cycling tourism
Discover Horehronie from the saddle of a bicycle, a variety of cycling routes of various difficulty levels await you. We recommend a cycling tour from Talov to Vajskovsky waterfall.
Čiernohronská železnica a Lesnícky skanzen Vydrovo Čiernohronská railway and Forestry open-air museum Vydrovo
The unique experience of riding in historic carriages is offered by the Čiernohronská railway. We recommend combining the trip with a visit to the Forestry Museum Vydrovo, where the railway has two stops. On the educational trails leading through the forest, you will learn about the history, protection, and importance of the forest, as well as the work of foresters. The open-air museum features a variety of exhibits of mechanisms used in logging, including a lumberjack's hut, chapel, and attractions for children.
King's Bald Mountain
The peak of Oprávnená, surrounded by legends and poems, is one of the most visited mountains in the Low Tatras. The trail leads from the village of Šumiac (blue trail) or from Telgárt along the green trail. If you start from Telgárt, we recommend stopping by the famous Chmárošský viaduct railway bridge.
Zbojská Saddle
Approximately 34 km from the cottage is the Zbojská Saddle with an observation tower, a famous mountain hut, and the beautiful educational forest trail of Jakub Surovec. Also worth mentioning is the little-known Čertova Valley.

Cottage activities and services
Do you prefer activities around the cottage? You can play ping-pong, badminton or darts for free with us. There is also table football in the basement. In the restaurant, we also have board games for both children and adults. If you crave a truly relaxing time, borrow a book from our library on the first floor and peacefully read it in a hammock among the shade of the trees. For more information, stop by our reception.
For children
For the little ones, there is a children's corner with toys available, located in the restaurant area. Outside, you will find a playground with a slide, swings, sandbox, and trampoline. In good weather, there is also an inflatable castle.
Toaster, grilling and goulash
During the summer, you can roast, grill or cook goulash with us. For reservations of a fire pit, grill or cauldron and borrowing all necessary equipment, please inquire in advance at reception. We also offer advantageous packages for roasting, so you don't have to measure the way to the store.
